The Cyclones' first road game of the season didn't pose much of a threat as Hallie Christofferson scored a team-high 25 points on her 22nd birthday as Iowa State beat Cincinnati, 78-42, to remain undefeated.
Any questions as to how freshmen Seanna Johnson and Jadda Buckley would fare on their first road trip were answered as they each scored double digits, going for 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Point guard Nikki Moody opened the game with a three-pointer and the Cyclones (3-0) never trailed, leading by as much as 15 in the first half. Iowa State would then go 20-7 run to begin the second half to go up 55-32 with 10:51 remaining.
The Bearcats were held to 17 points in the second half and didn't score a field goal in the last 5:46.
The Bearcats were believed to be the more physical team heading into the game, plus-six on the season in rebound margin and averaging 23 trips to the foul line. The Cyclones out rebounded Cincinnati by four, scored more points in the paint (24 to 20) and held the Bearcats to just 10 trips to the charity stripe.
Up next for the Cyclones: To Des Moines for an intrastate matchup against the Drake Bulldogs this Sunday at 2 p.m. Drake is 2-2 on the season with losses at Wisconsin and Colorado State by an average of 20 points. They were winners tonight in an overtime game at South Dakota. Iowa State defeated South Dakota last week, 88-72.
