Slight Delay En Route to Ames For Gabe Luna

Gabe Luna, one of four early JUCO signees for Iowa State, has a few things to take care of before officially enrolling at Iowa State. Neither Luna nor Paul Rhoads is too worried about a potential delay, however

Gabe Luna signed with Iowa State in December as an early-enrollee from Butler (KS) C.C., but still has work to do before getting to Ames.

Luna is seven credit hours away from his Associates Degree and is leaving Saturday for El Dorado, where Butler is located, to take two intercession classes, First Aid and Theory of Football.

"The classes are quite easy," Luna told AllCyclones.com on Thursday. "I've also talked to Coach (Paul) Rhoads and Coach (Curtis) Bray about me having to finish up in El Dorado and they both were really understanding with my situation."

The 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end, one of four early signees for the Cyclones, has circled Jan. 12 on his calendar as his target date to get to Ames.

For that to work, Luna's hoping for some flexibility.

"They're actually two-week classes but through communication with my professors I'm sure they'll let me finish early," he said. "If not then I'll finish the two classes and be in Ames (Jan.) 18.

Iowa State's spring classes begin Monday, Jan. 13.
