Kansas center Joel Embiid turned ESPN's Big Monday into his national breakout party.
The 7-foot freshman scored 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots in the Jayhawks' 77-70 win over No. 8 Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum.
Add in a 17-point, 19-rebound effort by Andrew Wiggins and 23 points from Naadir Tharpe, and it was plenty for No. 15 Kansas, which moves to 3-0 in the Big 12 while the Cyclones fall to 2-2.
ISU's DeAndre Kane played well on a bum left ankle, scoring 21 points, while Melvin Ejim (15 points, five rebounds) and Dustin Hogue (13 points, nine rebounds) contributed, but that was it for the Cyclones.
Sophomore forward Georges Niang was a lousy 4-for-20, including 0-for-9 from distance, while Matt Thomas and Naz Long combined for three points.
The Cyclones were a combined 4-for-25 from three-point range and was outrebounded, 53-36.
Next for Iowa State (14-2) is a trip to Austin to face Texas on Saturday.
