Below is a rundown of the Cyclones' 25 commits, four of whom signed in December (Wendell Taiese was not able to graduate at semester but is still a member of the class and will enroll this summer).

Allen Lazard

Wide Receiver

6-5, 190

Urbandale (IA) HS

Commit Date: Dec. 4, 2012

Key Quote: "I've seen the progress Coach Rhoads has [made] the last few years and that's something I want to be a part of. Hopefully we can get to a BCS bowl and change the way Iowa State's history has been."

Brief Scouting Report: Army All-American; strong hands; good straight-line speed for his size; grabs the ball at its highest point; big catch radius; facing a major upgrade in competition but has the body to adjust quickly; lateral movement is average; like most high school receivers, route-running is "incomplete," as he mostly ran flies and posts.

De'Monte Ruth

5-10, 160

Wilmer-Hutchins (TX) HS

Commit Date: May 4, 2013

Key Quote: "100 percent."

Brief Scouting Report: Fluid hips; changes direction well; two-way player in high school with ball skills to turn defense over; needs to get stronger.

Vic Holmes

Free Safety

5-11, 177

La Porte (TX) HS

Commit Date: May 5, 2013

Key Quote: "I enjoyed the weather — it's way different than Houston, there's snow on the ground — and the coaching staff is great."

Brief Scouting Report: Projects as a free safety; two-way player with very good ball skills; not shy about contact.

Sam Seonbuchner

Weakside Linebacker

6-2, 215

Hartland Arrowhead (WI) HS

Commit Date: May 11, 2013

Key Quote: "Iowa State said the opportunity will be there but it's up to me how it plays out. I'm not sure if I'll redshirt, but whichever is best for the team is which one I'll do."

Brief Scouting Report: Weakside linebacker with impressive frame and mobility; very good in coverage; flashed play-making abilities in high school; needs redshirt year to adjust to Big 12 downfield blockers.

Kory Kodanko

Offensive Tackle

6-6, 315

West De Pere (WI) HS

Commit Date: June 6, 2013

Key Quote: "I still have a lot more improvement to do and looking forward to accomplishing that."

Brief Scouting Report: Tremendous size; wears weight well; long arms; working on footwork and burst off line.

Martinez Syria

Running Back

6-2, 200

Chester W Nimitz (TX) HS

Commit Date: June 6, 2013

Key Quote: "Iowa State is getting a Marion Grice (Arizona State – RB), Josh Huff (Oregon – WR) and a Dre'Vian Young (Utah – RB) all in one. Now he is not as fast as Young and not as big as Grice and he is not as elusive as Huff, but he has all of these qualities. And on top of all this, he (Syria) can catch." - Nimitz coach Robert Toomer.

Brief Scouting Report: Complete package out of the backfield; strong runner who punishes defenders at contact; direct, upright runner who breaks quickly through the second level; good pass-catcher; doesn't have elite quickness or elusiveness.

Scott Schaffner

Tight End

6-4, 215

Raymore-Peculiar (MO) HS

Commit Date: June 7, 2013

Key Quote: "Coach Rhoads asked me to close my recruitment, and I did. My recruitment's over."

Brief Scouting Report: Huge catch radius; breaks tackles at the second level; soft hands; needs to polish footwork on route-running; a flanker in high school system, will need to learn nuances of run-blocking and pass protection.

Orion Salters

Wide Receiver

5-10, 160

Jesuit College Prep School (TX)

Commit Date: June 17, 2013

Key Quote: "I picked Iowa State because I hear that it's like a family up there. They are also the only school that stuck with me through the shoulder injury."

Brief Scouting Report: Sharp route-runner; great agility; threat for yards-after-catch; can be power-to-speed change-of-pace runner; straight-line speed not great; needs to bulk up; can return kicks.

Reggan Northrup

Strongside linebacker/nickelback

6-2, 190

First Coast (FL) HS

Commit Date: June 23, 2013

Key Quote: "Coach Douglas, my recruiter, me, him and my dad we have a great relationship. They have a good relationship. He recruited my brother when Coach Douglas was at North Carolina. We all knew each other. He told me a lot of good things that I didn't know and I really enjoyed what I heard."

Brief Scouting Report: Very physical, instinctive; future impact player at strongside linebacker or nickel; probably doesn't have top-end speed to purely play safety.

Jauan Wesley

Wide Receiver

5-11, 160

Thornton Township (IL) HS

Commit Date: July 23, 2013

Key Quote: "The program is looking for something to prove."

Brief Scouting Report: Explodes out of his breaks; advanced route-runner; catches the ball away from his body; needs to bulk up.

Will Windham

Offensive Guard

6-4, 325

Samuel Clemens (TX) HS

Commit Date: July 24, 2013

Key Quote: "Everywhere you went, football players are getting high-fives and fist-bumps. Everybody supports you."

Brief Scouting Report: Good base; locates defenders well while pulling; powerful at point of impact; plays lighter than he is at 325 pounds but as an interior lineman in spread/power-running offense shouldn't add more weight.

Colin Downing

6-0, 175

Whitefish Bay (WI) HS

Commit Date: Sept. 20, 2013

Key Quote: "(Paul) Rhoads makes me want to be a part of the program. He really is like no other coach I have ever talked to."

Brief Scouting Report: Considered one of the best in his class; powerful leg; plus control; needs to improve hang-time.

Cole Anderson

6-5, 275

Clear Falls (TX) HS

Commmit Date: Oct. 13, 2013

Key Quote: "Coach Rhoads talked about earned trust and blind trust and told me if he had my earned trust, which he does, then I could blindly trust based on the history of players coming from Texas that I was going to be happy there."

Brief Scouting Report: Tackle in high school but moving to center in college; ideal body for interior lineman; will look to get stronger.

Devron Moore

Free Safety

6-1, 190

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 3, 2013

Signed LOI and enrolled

Key Quote: ""I just liked how I could fit in. The coaches knew everything about everything — academics, weights. Everything [with them] was really organized."

Brief Scouting Report: Tremendous in zone coverage; profiles as a free safety; strong in run defense; ready to contribute as early JUCO enrollee.

Qujuan Floyd

6-0, 185

Santa Monica (CA) JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 3, 2013

Key Quote: "I talked to my Dad right when they left about waiting until January to see Utah and he basically said, 'Don't wait until the right minute and lose Iowa State."

Brief Scouting Report: Good tackler who could play either strong or free safety; elite closing speed; can return punts and kicks.

Darius Lee-Campbell

6-2, 200

Spring (TX) HS

Commit Date: Dec. 7, 2013

Key Quote: When they hired Mangino, I knew it'd be [good]. He's had success everywhere he's been and turned some pretty average quarterbacks into pretty good ones."

Brief Scouting Report: Smooth runner; engineer of advanced read-option offense in high school; very cerebral; good touch on deep ball; arm strength is good but not elite; will look to improve accuracy.

Gabe Luna

Defensive End

6-2, 250

Butler (KS) JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 10, 2013

Signed LOI and enrolled

Key Quote: "My coaches have a real good idea what school would be the best fit for me and made me realize I've only got two years — three if I were to get redshirted — to go in and contribute to the team."

Brief Scouting Report: A compact defensive end, uses his size to his advantage when engaging an offensive tackle; has quick hands so he's able to get low and get inside most offensive tackles to push them back or dispatch them when he needs to make a play; quick burst off the line of scrimmage and a high motor that will get him a lot of chase down tackles.

Strong at the point of attack, but undersized against 300-plus pound tackles.

Jordan Harris

Middle Linebacker

6-0, 225

Copiah-Lincoln (MS) JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 10, 2013

Signed LOI and enrolled

Key Quote: "I came home, had a heart-to-heart talk with my Mother and we came to agreement she'd support me wherever I go. I know she liked Iowa State the most; they showed I was wanted and needed."

Brief Scouting Report: Prolific JUCO tackler; flies to the football; hard-hitter; small at 6-foot; unproven in coverage.

Brian Peavy

5-10, 165

Westfield (TX) HS

Commit Date: Dec. 16, 2013

Key Quote: "I played against Big 12 receivers that are playing now — I can play as a freshman. I see myself as a competitor so I'm going to come in and compete and give myself the opportunity to play."

Brief Scouting Report: Smooth, athletic defender with play-making abilities; experience against good competition and high confidence will help him to play early; breaks quickly on ball; needs to improve press-coverage mechanics.

Wendell Taiese

Offensive Guard

6-6, 350

Laney (CA) JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 16, 2013

Signed LOI early but won't enroll until summer

Key Quote: "They want me coming in immediately and play."

Brief Scouting Report: Impressive mobility for someone his size; good footwork in power-pulling schemes; needs to improve pass-protection fundamentals; JUCO experience has him ready to contribute immediately.

Dale Pierson

Defensive End

6-3, 260

Pasadena (CA) JUCO

Commit Date: Dec. 18, 2013

Key Quote: "My spot is locked in. It is a relief. It feels good, good to know exactly where I'm gonna go, exactly what I'm gonna end up doing. I've been waiting on this day for a long time."

Brief Scouting Report: Elite pass-rusher at JUCO ranks; explosive power moves; equipped to contribute immediately; average range and wingspan.

Michael Warren

Running Back

6-1, 185

Lawton (OK) HS

Commit Date: Jan. 26, 2014

Key Quote: "I was guessing since [Louis Ayeni] went there he'd probably recruit me there, too. I was hoping he would and he did."

Brief Scouting Report: Turned heads when he ran a 4.34 second 40-yard dash at Texas A&M's camp; smooth, electric runner; wants to improve initial burst; needs polish in pass protection.

Terry Ayeni

Defensive Lineman

6-4, 265

New Mexico Military Institute (JUCO)

Commit Date: Jan. 26, 2014

Key Quote: "[ISU's JUCO history] is very, very, very encouraging."

Brief Scouting Report: Quick hands at the point of attack; wears weight well around the edge; could be an impact three-technique defensive tackle because of his quickness."

Mike Johnson

5-11, 170

Countryside (FL) HS

Commit Date: Jan. 26, 2014

Key Quote: "It's OK [if I grayshirt], I'd still be a Cyclone. I'm still going to be a part of Iowa State so it doesn't matter. If I do grayshirt and come [in January], I could have a better chance at starting."

Brief Scouting Report: Better in zone coverage than man to man; does a nice job of reading quarterback's eyes and has good awareness; does show nice ball skills; solid in run support but not an overwhelming striker; will set the edge and turn everything inside to pursuit.

Willie Harvey

Weakside Linebacker

6-0, 210

Pedro Menendez (FL) HS

Commit Date: Feb. 3, 2013

Key Quote: "It happened unexpectedly. I knew they were recruiting me a little but when I found out they had offered I felt honored."

Brief Scouting Report: Physical, downhill linebacker with above average speed and athletic ability based off his senior highlight tape; runs very well and has good feet and change of direction; good tackler who shows natural instincts in finding the ball carrier and getting to the ball quickly; hustles and pursues the ball with relentless effort; Harvey is very good at blitzing between the tackles or off the edge; one area you would like to see him continue to improve in is taking on blocks; lined up at wide receiver on offense.
