Williams Gets Call From Hoiberg

"I'm a versatile player so I need to play somewhere where they'll use my versatility, inside and outside," Williams said. "I want to go somewhere that's up-tempo and will run out. And also I'm looking for a college town with great fans and I also want to play at the highest level in a high-major conference."

2015 forward Darien Williams told AllCyclones.com on Wednesday that Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg called to offer a scholarship.

"He just said they offered me a scholarship and he htinks I'd fit in their system with the way they play," the 6-foot-9 Williams said.

Williams is receiving interest from Oregon, Creighton, Iowa and Louisville. He'll take an official visit to Iowa State but doesn't know where else he'll visit.

There isn't currently a target date for a commitment.

"[Not] Until I see everybody who's recruiting me," Williams said. "I'll look at the best situation for me. I don't have a time frame in mind just whenever I know it's the right fit I'll make his decision."

Williams was in Ames over the weekend for Iowa State's win over Texas Tech and was also at Hilton for ISU's loss to Kansas in January.

"The whole atmosphere, it's great," Williams said. "The way they play is great. Next time I'm going to go up around campus and see everything and check it out."

Said Williams in a past interview with Scout.com on his preferred fit: "I'm a versatile player so I need to play somewhere where they'll use my versatility, inside and outside. I want to go somewhere that's up-tempo and will run out. And also I'm looking for a college town with great fans and I also want to play at the highest level in a high-major conference."
