Hutchinson (KS) C.C. outside linebacker Claude George received a Cyclones offer over the weekend, his head coach getting him in touch with ISU offensive coordinator Mark Mangino, who extended the offer over the phone.
"They said I can do a lot of things: I'm a hybrid, can rush the passer, drop back into coverage as an outside linebacker," George told AllCyclones.com on Monday.
In the next week, Mangino will get a better idea of George's abilities, while George will become better acquainted with the Cyclones.
Mangino will be at Hutchinson on Wednesday, George says, as will Arizona State and potentially UCLA. Mangino will be back for Hutchinson's Spring Game on Saturday.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound George — who signed with Memphis out of high school in 2012 — has already made enough of an impression to pick up offers from ISU, USF, Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis. He still hopes to put on a show.
"I'll pretty much continue what I've been doing," he said. "I feel I'm a 'backer but I like to rush the quarterback. Sometimes they have me put my hand in the dirt, sometimes I do it out of a two-point stance."
Says Scout.com's Derek Young, who caught a Hutchinson practice recently: "On film it appears that linebacker Claude George is just a fireball off the edge, and he is. That is not all he brings to the table, though. I expected George to be a threat to get to the quarterback but he showed well in pass coverage too. His footwork is strong and is quick to make his drops. His instincts would be an area needed to be improved upon but he has the tools to be a complete player at the position."
George expects to visit Iowa State in June, likely unofficially.
