Having returned from the elite IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he served as the backup to Alabama-bound Bo Scarbrough, 2015 running back Michael Daniel is ready to attract attention of his own.
The Brookings, South Dakota, product is home.
"I am," Daniel said when asked if he was glad to be back. "[IMG] was a good experience, though."
The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Daniel rushed for 150 yards on 37 carries and three touchdowns at Bradenton. A far cry from his 1,000 yards on just 138 carries his sophomore season at Brookings.
Without any offers and with plans to graduate early and enroll in January, Daniel is banking on solid camp performances this summer and a sizzling senior tape.
He hears from Nebraska, North Dakota State, South Dakota, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota and Cal. Iowa State in particular was by his school last week, sending offensive line coach Brandon Blaney.
"The first chance they got to go on a recruiting visit so it was nice he got to come out," Daniel said. "He watched me do some pro agility then lift a little bit in the weight room.
"They want me to come to camp this summer and with me being an early enroll that's helping my stock a little, too."
Daniel was in Ames for the March 29 Junior Day.
"I liked it a lot," he said. Met coach Lou Ayeni, the running backs coach, he's a great guy. And obviously Coach Blaney is a good guy, too. I like them a lot. They're got a lot of energy, which I love. And then with them coming out that really boosts them in my book, too."
