An Extinct Breed

Troy Davis will find out Thursday whether he made the College Football Hall of Fame. The Iowa State legend is part of a two-man fraternity, twice rushing for 2,000 yards in one season, a fate unlikely to be accomplished again

How many players have toted the rock in college football history?

Too many to count.

How many players have rushed for 1,000 yards in one season in college football history?

Would take too long to count.

How many times has someone picked up 2,000 yards in one year?

Twenty-two, per college football reference.

How many guys have done that more than once?

Two: Iowa State's Troy Davis and Wisconsin's Ron Dayne.

Davis is one of 75 All-America players from the FBS up for 2014 College Football HOF honors, announced Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Playing on three Iowa State teams that went a combined 5-27, Davis wasn't at the forefront of the national conscience each Saturday, but there's no denying his place among the all-time best college running backs.
