DFW Weekly Recruiting Notebook

Scout.com recaps the recruiting week of June 30 to July 6 in the DFW Metroplex.

The past week was a light one on the recruiting trail in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, but there was still some news despite the usual quiet period surrounding the July 4 holiday.

Dallas Bishop Dunne 2015 receiver Adrian Miller took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to announce his commitment to Illinois, which the 6-foot-3, 170-pounder chose over about two dozen other offers.

Miller's commitment to the Fighting Illini preceded another Lone Star State commitment from the receiver position in Houston Kinkaid 2015 prospect Sam Mays, who pledged Sunday afternoon to Illinois.

Miller is a big get for the Illini. He had offers from such programs as Arizona State, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Washington, among many others.

Early during the past week, Scout.com national analyst Greg Powers reported the recent commitment of The Colony 2015 linebacker Justin Jinning to Iowa. Jinning, who pledged to the Hawkeyes in late June, is a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder who will likely play the outside at the next level.

Another bit of commitment-related news involved Sachse 2015 running back Devine Ozigbo, who tweeted Sunday that he will announce his pledge from eight finalists via Twitter on July 22. Ozigbo has almost two dozen FBS offers.

Among other news in the DFW Metroplex this past week, Plano East 2017 linebacker and Mississippi State commit Anthony Hines picked up a few more offers, pushing his list to a staggering 45.

Hines got offers Tuesday from West Virginia and Rutgers before receiving an LSU offer Wednesday.

Greenville 2015 receiver D'erren Wilson had a change of heart regarding his commitment timeline. On the evening of July 1, Wilson named a top three of Arkansas State, BYU, and Indiana with plans for a Wednesday decision, but tweeted the next morning (Tuesday) that he had postponed his decision.

Tuesday also brought the 6-foot-2 1/2, 172-pound Wilson his eighth FBS offer, which came from North Texas.

This past Monday brought Mesquite 2015 offensive lineman Christian Castleberry an offer from Army, which joins Louisiana-Monroe and UTEP on his list.
