Xavier Pegues Commits to Iowa State

Iowa State picked up its second defensive lineman in as many days Monday night when it got a commitment from JUCO defensive tackle Xavier Pegues

Xavier Pegues and Larry Jefferson arrived at Iowa State as teammates from Itawamba Community College for their official visits last Friday, and it turns out they'll remain teammates next season.

After Jefferson, a three-star defensive end, committed to Iowa State on Sunday, Pegues followed suit Monday when the defensive tackle gave the Cyclones a verbal commitment, he told AllCyclones.com

Pegues held offers from West Virginia and California before choosing Iowa State. Itwamba coach Sean Cannon said the 6-foot-4 lineman is a strong player inside.

“He’s a different player than Larry, for sure,” Cannon said. “[He’s got] a much bigger body [and is] an inside three-technique guy. He was probably a 240-pound kid out of high school and now he’s up to 275, 280. You hear those comparisons to being a bull in a China shop and that’s kind of how he is.”
