Tom Farniok pauses for a moment and then, without hesitation, presents and answer: When all is said and done, who will be the best of the Farniok brothers?
"The third one, Matt," Farniok says. "He’s massive and he’s unbelievably talented. He’s more talented than he even knows. I’ll never tell him that. He’s unreal."
Come Saturday, Tom, a redshirt senior, will watch one of his younger brothers, Derek, a redshirt junior offensive lineman at Oklahoma, from the home sideline at Jack Trice Stadium. It is that matchup that brings up the topic of football in the family.
Will Farniok plays on the sophomore team at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Matt, who holds an Iowa State offer, is a four-star tackle.
"He’s just massive. He runs well. That’s why he’s one of the top recruits, because he’s got it," Tom said. "Then we’re teaching him what to do along the way, which is helping him. He’s getting coaching from a tackle that plays at Oklahoma, so he knows the deal. He’s got a lot of tools and advantages and he’s smart enough to use them. That’s what makes him so much better."
Matt has visited Iowa State unofficially this season. He also holds offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Washington State.
