Darien Williams Granted Release From ISU

2015 Iowa State signee Darien Williams has been granted a release from Iowa State.

2015 signee Darien Williams will not end up at Iowa State after all as the 6-foot-8 forward has been granted a release from his National Letter of Intent, he told AllCyclones.com on Saturday evening.

Williams said in a phone conversation that his release from Iowa State comes with no restrictions and that he didn't consider Iowa State a "bad" school, adding that he felt this move was in his best interest moving forward.

The change of heart for Williams comes just days after his lead recruiter, Matt Abdelmassih, left Iowa State for St. John's. Williams, who played the 2013-14 season at Iowa Western Community College, sat out this last season after having surgery on both shoulders and moving home to San Francisco. He said he hasn't had any contact with other schools.

The loss leaves Iowa State with four open scholarships for the 2015-16 season.
