The Cyclones have made alterations at tight end by moving Cole Anderson from his position as an offensive lineman to tight end this spring. In addition to Anderson, who will be a redshirt sophomore in 2016, Iowa State will have Scotty Schaffner as a redshirt sophomore after next season along with Justin Chandler, who will be a redshirt senior when 2016 rolls around.
After not taking a tight end in the 2015 class, and with three redshirt sophomores on roster by the time the 2016 class arrives, Iowa State is on the search for a tight end in this class and has one primary target.
Hockenson is ranked as the top tight end in Iowa for the 2016 class and as a top-10 tight end in the Midwest. The Chariton (IA) native has visited Iowa State multiple times and holds an offer from the Cyclones while also drawing interest from Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, Missouri and Nebraska (but no offers yet).
While Iowa State doesn't have many tight end targets currently, Hockenson seems to be the one the Cyclones are keying in on and is currently the favorite. He will let the process play out, but is almost certain to decide at least before his senior season.
