Martinez Syria Dismissed from Team

Iowa State announced Wednesday that sophomore running back Martinez Syria has been dismissed from the team.

Iowa State's backfield got younger Wednesday afternoon as the team announced coach Paul Rhoads has dismissed sophomore running back Martinez Syria from the team for a violation of team policies.

The Cyclones were set to enter the 2015 season with Syria, redshirt sophomore Tyler Brown and redshirt freshman Michael Warren as their primary ball carriers. That group combined for 44 carries in 2014, making it quite possibly the most inexperienced bunch in the Big 12.

Iowa State will now proceed with only one running back, Brown, who had any snaps in 2014 (24). The Cyclones also added incoming freshmen Joshua Thomas and Sheldon Croney to the mix this summer. The expectation had been that one would compete for immediate playing time, but it's now possible that could change.
