The focus on Iowa State recruiting may currently be geared toward 2016, but the Cyclones are wasting no time in their search for a 2017 quarterback, offering two talented in-state prospects Friday night.
Coach Paul Rhoads extended offers to West Des Moines Valley quarterback Rocky Lombardi and West Waterloo quarterback Devon Moore on Friday night after coaches were able to evaluate both Iowa prospects within the last week.
Iowa State came away impressed with Lombardi last Sunday when it saw him throw during its 7-on-7 camp. Moore was in attendance Friday night for the Cyclones' Friday Night Lights camp in Ames. Rhoads called Lombardi, who was visiting Michigan and Michigan State, toward the end of camp to extend an offer. He offered Moore in-person following the camp.
The offer for Moore, a lefty, is his second Division I offer as Toledo has previously entered the mix. The offer for Lombardi is his first.
Iowa State is still on the search for the right quarterback to offer for its 2016 class, but the Cyclones are already active for 2017 with these two offers.
