Speculation on new Iowa State coach Steve Prohm's staff has run rampant in the nearly two weeks since his hiring, but that finally reached an end Monday as Iowa State made the decisions official.
As has long been thought, Prohm will retain assistant T.J. Otzelberger while also adding assistants William Small and Daniyal Robinson to his staff. Director of Basketball Operations Micah Byars will be retained while Neill Berry will join the staff as Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
“I am excited about the staff that I’ve been able to assemble,” Prohm said in a news release Monday morning. “This was a unique situation because Fred (Hoiberg) went to the NBA and I wanted to be very respectful to everybody involved in the process. “I thought that because of the success of the program it would be important to have some continuity."
The staff of Otzelberger, Small and Robinson gives Iowa State an interesting recruiting dynamic. Both Small and Prohm have strong recruiting ties in the south while Otzelberger has long mined the Midwest, including the Wisconsin area. Robinson has connections in the Chicago area as well as with JUCOs.
