Josh Mueller Focused on Two Programs

2016 Wisconsin offensive tackle Josh Mueller is focused on two schools at the moment and is looking ahead to potential visits.

Mequon Homestead (Wisc.) prospect Josh Mueller is spending more of his time these days on the offensive side of the ball as he begins his senior season.

The 6-foot-6 lineman, who was previously a defensive end, is also focused on two schools. Mueller is currently between Iowa State and Northern Illinois for a decision, though he admits it's possible that list could expand given the right situation.

"At Iowa State, I loved the facilities and had great conversations with a lot of the players and felt that the team is a family," Muller said of his focus on the two schools. "At Northern Illinois, I think they have great coaches. The coaches have been honest and make me feel home every time I visit."

Mueller, who holds offers from the likes of Iowa State, Illinois, Northern Illinois, Hawaii, Ball State and Eastern Michigan among others, is drawing interest from a few other Power 5 schools as he moves into his season.

"I have been talking to Syracuse. Also, Michigan and Louisville [are showing interest]," Mueller said. "I am open to expanding. They want to see film of me playing O-line."

Mueller hadn't played on the offensive line since middle school before moving to the offensive line this season after schools began projecting him there at the next level.

"I am working with the O-line a lot this year. I'm actually playing O-line during games," Mueller said. "[Friday] was my first game playing O-line. [I’m making] huge strides from practice to the game."

Both Iowa State and Northern Illinois — as well as the other Power 5 schools waiting on offensive line film — see him as an offensive tackle. While he gets more work there, and as others look on, Mueller is focused on Iowa State and Northern Illinois.

He plans to take visits (potentially multiple trips) to see both programs in action.

"Well for Iowa State, I am going to the Iowa State [versus] Iowa game. And hopefully after that will take an official visit," Mueller said. "I will also be going to a game at NIU and hopefully an official visit. I haven't set any dates for visits yet."

Mueller visited Iowa State in late June for its Golden Ticket Day. Now he wants to see Jack Trice Stadium in action.

"I want to see the atmosphere of the games," Muller said of what he's looking for on his trips. "I also want to watch the coaches during the game and evaluate them to see if that is the place for me."

Mueller doesn't have a clear timeline as he'd like to first make his visits.
