When Lake Ridge (Texas) cornerback Arnold Azunna left his Iowa State official visit less than one week ago, his initial intention was to take some time to let his recruitment play out in the coming weeks.
So much for that.
Following his team’s win Friday night, the 6-foot, 185-pound cornerback committed to Iowa State, choosing the Cyclones over offers from Illinois, Colorado State, Fresno State, Air Force and Nevada.
“They see me as a corner that can play as a true freshman and make an impact right away,” Azunna told AllCyclones.com after his visit. “That’s what I’m there for, to help the team build a stronger defense.”
Azunna, who was being recruited by Stan Eggen, had been in contact with Eggen, secondary coach Maurice Linguist and Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads recently and his trip ultimately helped seal the deal.
Also drawing some interest from Pittsburgh, TCU and Texas, Azunna has played well in the opening weeks of the 2015 season. He stopped at Colorado State before making his second trip to Iowa State last weekend, which went well.
“I liked the weight room, the facilities, it’s really big and astounding, the coaches are real and I got along with the players well, the stadium atmosphere is crazy, the fans are really spirited and true to their team,” Azunna said. “I [liked] the spirit walk."
Now, as the eighth high school commit in Iowa State’s 2015 class, Azunna will soon get another close firsthand look.
