In the evolving world of major college football, there are seldom surprises when it comes to scheduling as programs schedule opponents as many as five years out and beyond.
Still, there is always a wait to see the layout.
That wait for the 2016 season has come to an end even before this 2015 season has been completed. The Big 12 announced its 2016 schedule Tuesday, revealing in what order the Cyclones will face their nine conference foes and when they'll face their three nonconference opponents — Northern Iowa, Iowa and San Jose State.
Iowa State, which will enter the season with a first-year head coach following the firing of Paul Rhoads, will open the 2016 season at Jack Trice Stadium on Sept. 3 against Northern Iowa before traveling to Iowa the next weekend for its in-state rivalry. The nonconference schedule takes a one-week hiatus as it did in 2014 when Iowa State travels to Forth Worth, Texas, to begin its Big 12 schedule against TCU.
The Cyclones will host four of their final five games in 2016 at Jack Trice Stadium, including a Thursday night contest at home against Oklahoma on Nov. 3. Iowa State's bye week in 2016 will come mid-season on Oct. 22.
