Iowa State Set for Coaching Interviews

Iowa State is moving forward in its search for a new head coach, reportedly conducting interviews with candidates on Sunday and Monday. Could a hire be made soon?

History indicates that Iowa State will move quickly in its quest for a new football coach, and the search is trending in that direction.

One day after Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard and associate AD David Harris were spotted on a flight headed to Detroit, Sports Illustrated reported Saturday that Parker Executive Search, the same search firm that was used to hire Steve Prohm in the summer, will conduct interviews for the Iowa State job Sunday and Monday.

Pollard and Harris' trip to the Detroit area could provide some indication. That airport is less than one hour from Toledo coach Matt Campbell and nearly two hours from Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck. Iowa State could have stiff competition for Campbell, who Football Scoop reports is expected to interview for the Missouri job and is a strong candidate. Both are the youngest coaches in FBS and could be coveted.

Other candidates for the position include Navy's Ken Niumatalolo, Georgia Southern's Willie Fritz, Utah State's Matt Wells and Northern Illinois' Rod Carey among others.
