Iowa State Backup Quarterback Grant Rohach Transferring

Iowa State backup quarterback Grant Rohach will transfer out of the program the school announced Tuesday.

The move had been speculated in recent weeks and Tuesday it became official: Iowa State redshirt junior quarterback Grant Rohach is transferring.

Rohach, who is entering his final season in 2016, will be a graduate transfer and is eligible immediately at a new school. In four seasons at Iowa State, including his redshirt campaign, Rohach made five career starts, including the final four of the 2013 season.

In 2015, Rohach slid to No. 3 on Iowa State's depth chart as redshirt sophomore Joel Lanning vaulted to the starting job with five games remaining and senior Sam Richardson held onto the No. 2 spot. Rohach's transfer had been speculated with Lanning the clear on-roster leader to start in 2016.

With Rohach's transfer, Iowa State now has two scholarship quarterbacks on roster in Lanning and freshman Dominic DeLira. The Cyclones have been interested in JUCO quarterback Andrew Ford, who holds an offer and has visited. Ford will make a decision in the week or two ahead. With new leadership, Iowa State could also target an incoming freshman quarterback for its 2016 class.
