Hamilton (Ohio) defensive back and Indiana commit A'shon Riggins added an Iowa State offer Wednesday and was given a message from the new staff.
Riggins, a 6-foot, 165-pounder who is ranked as the No. 13 Midwest cornerback in the 2016 class, has had a preexisting relationship with new Iowa State assistant Alex Golesh from his time at Illinois and with Matt Campbell and his staff from their time at Toledo.
That resulted in his seventh Power 5 offer this week.
“I've already met with Coach Golesh [at Illinois] and talked to Coach Campbell before when they both offered me from their recent schools. I haven't talked to either of them in months until yesterday when Golesh offered me,” Riggins said. “All he said was to let him know if something happens with Indiana.”
Currently, that isn’t in doubt.
“I'm currently committed to Indiana,” Riggins said when asked if he would consider this new option or any others.
Riggins had strong interest in Illinois and visited there before committing to Indiana in late June. Iowa State hasn’t yet talked to him about either an official visit or a potential school/in-home visit from a coach, he said.
Nonetheless, there is a relationship if Riggins chooses to listen.
“I actually had a pretty good relationship with both of them,” Riggins said of Golesh and Campbell. “I even visited Illinois. It was one of my top schools before I committed to Indiana. They were my first offer. Toledo wasn't exactly in my top because I knew I belonged in a bigger conference. But I talked to the Toledo staff all the time and me and Coach Campbell talked a few times.”
