Who Iowa State Added

The Scouting Report

Tymar Sutton: Sutton is an undersized linebacker prospect but he plays with speed, is physical, can tackle in space and is comfortable in coverage. He doubles as an option quarterback at McKeesport. He accelerates well and closes on the ball carrier. He reads plays well and covers the flat in a zone with fluidity. He can take on a block, disengage and make the tackle. He has good speed and is tough.Scout's Brian Dohn

The Position Situation

Iowa State won't need Tymar Sutton to step in and play immediately. The Cyclones will have seniors Levi Peters, Jordan Harris and Jay Jones at the position along with youngsters and redshirt sophomores, Willie Harvey and Reggan Northtrup among others. So Sutton will have time to develop during his redshirt freshman season, though he could eventually be an earlier contributor in Ames. Time will tell if Sutton gets a look with an offensive package, but there is intrigue with the idea given his size, athleticism and history as an option quarterback at the high school level.
