Florida Cornerback Cedrick Dort Nearing Decision

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) cornerback Cedrick Dort is closing in on his commitment with an announcement coming August 2. Here's the latest as that decision draws closer.

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) prospect Cedrick Dort is one week away from making his college decision, and the 16th-ranked Florida corner has options.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Dort holds more than 20 offers, but has cut his list to 10 ahead of his Aug. 2 announcement. Dort will select from a group that consists of Iowa State, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Purdue, Syracuse, Wake Forest, USF, Minnesota, Cincinnati and Rutgers in no particular order.

“My key factors will be the love I get from the schools that are recruiting me and how well my relationship is with the coaching staff,” Dort said recently.

Dort has been on multiple summer trips to get a better feel for his options, including one to Iowa State the weekend of June 25. He returned to Florida impressed and the Cyclones have remained a top option since.

“The trip went well for me and I took a lot from the visit, one being love. As a football player for ISU, I see you are loved and will be taken great care of,” Dort said. “The fan base is something unbelievable and the coaching staff has to be the coolest coaching staff I will probably ever meet. I also took away the chemistry of the players, all the players are click-tight, like they’re real brothers and that’s something you should want for a team. [There are] many more great things I can say about ISU, my visit was just that good.”

Kentucky received a visit in July and is also considered a top option. Dort excels in press coverage and feels as though he’d fit well in Iowa State’s scheme.

“I talked to Nigel Tribune and Richard Bowens [on my visit] and my takeaway from it is you basically go play the best receivers in the country like the Josh Doctsons, Sterling Shepherds and Corey Colemans week after week,” Dort said. “Being the Big 12 [is] known for the dominant passing game, you can really shine if you lock them down.”

Dort will make his decision public next Tuesday.
