With camp season coming to a close and the real season picking up, the Iowa State staff has a clear goal, and they have made this goal clear throughout the recruiting process; find your guys and stick with them.
While many believed Wisconsin or Purdue may have lead for 2017 Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington 3-star cornerback Dedrick Mackey, the Cyclones have came on late and now are among the leaders for the southern Florida prospect.
"Purdue, Florida Atlantic and Iowa State lead for me now, but Iowa State really appeals to me. They have been recruiting me the hardest lately and I love what they have to offer me. I feel comfortable with the staff and specifically Coach Thurston. He is a great overall person and very knowledge about football."
One thing Mackey wants when looking at a school is to feel at home and be comfortable with people around him. He sees that at all his top three schools (Purdue, Iowa State and Florida Atlantic) but especially sees it at Iowa State.
"I just felt really good when I visited a while back. I know I have an official visit planned for sure, so I really want to see the campus and staff again. The staff is very encouraging with me and always tell me how much they like me. They've been very receptive to my needs and I thinks it's a great opportunity for me.
Mackey already has three official visits in mind, Purdue, Iowa State and Florida Atlantic. Mackey has said distance is not s factor and he will make a decision on his commitment after his high school season.
