Since the Iowa State coaching staff offered 2017 Chicago, IL (Curie Metropolitan) three-star shooting guard Elijah Joiner back in early-July, he has become a major priority for the Cyclones current cycle. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Joiner, who is a three-star shooting guard by Scout, holds offers from Missouri, Illinois State, UAB, and many others.
The Cyclones coaching staff, led by Head Coach Steve Prohm and assistant coach Daniyal Robinson, have put the full-court press on Joiner within his recruitment. Chicago is where Joiner grew up and is currently living, Daniyal Robinson is also from Chicago and the two share that with each other proudly.
“Iowa state is a great program, they play up tempo, like to run in transition, and they are very discipline," Joiner mentioned about Iowa State. "We talk a lot, Coach Prohm and Coach Rob, Coach Rob and I have a good relationship, him being from Chicago makes it easier to talk to him. We talk about school and mostly they just check up on me to make sure I'm good.”
Joiner, who has already taken visits to Illinois State (Aug. 26th) and will visit Missouri (Sept. 23rd), UAB (Oct. 14th) has already scheduled an official visit with the Cyclones. Due to all the recruiting from the staff, Joiner will be taking an official visit to Ames on September 30th.
“I haven’t visited Iowa State yet, scheduled my official visit for September 30th. I look forward to seeing the campus, meeting all the coaches and also seeing the arena.”
When Joiner takes his visit to Iowa State in a few weeks, he won’t be going alone. He will be accompanied by both his mother and father, who will play a major role in what school Joiner ends up. The Cyclones currently sit atop Joiner’s recruitment and might also for his parents. Not to mention, with his parents coming along he hasn’t ruled out a commitment on his visit, Joiner said it’s “possible.”
“ISU is at the top of my recruitment and they're somewhat the leader. Just by the way they have recruited me, having a Chicago guy on the staff and I really like their program. My parents will be on my Iowa State visit with me. They really like ISU and it's very important to me because I'm still a kid and can't make any decisions on my own.”
The Cyclones are currently sitting in wonderful position for one of their top targets in Joiner. As of right now, the three-star shooting guard has no commitment date, he will make the decision when it “feels right.” That time might just be in Ames, Iowa on September 30th.
