The Iowa State football program is no stranger to Cedar Rapids Washington High School, located in Eastern Iowa. 2018 offensive tackle three-star Andrew Todd is the latest major target out of Cedar Rapids. With the "pipeline" of Cedar Rapids, already having several alumni with the Cyclones in Julian Good-Jones and Landen Akers. Not to mention, O’Rien Vance already committed to to the current 2017 class. Todd has become another major target.
The 6-foot-4, 270-pound offensive tackle, was first offered by the Cyclones coaching staff back in mid-December. That offer from Iowa State was “pretty crazy” for Todd and since that offer, he has visited Ames multiple times.
One of the few top 2018 targets who was on campus this weekend was Todd, who had himself a “blast” during his visit to Iowa State.
“I had a blast, it was really good to get down there and experience the atmosphere of their gameday,” Todd said about his unofficial visit to Iowa State. “I think they’re heading in the right direction with everything that I have seen. I think that they're in a transition period, trying to get the players they want into their program. I am honored to be one of the players they want.”
Todd doesn’t have any early favorites and maintains that he wants to enjoy the recruiting process before he rushes into narrowing down his list or making a commitment. However, after his recent visit to Ames and his strong relationship with Matt Campbell and Mitchell Moore. The Cyclones are looking pretty good.
“I have a very good relationship with Coach Moore and Campbell. I talk to Coach Moore a lot and they wish me luck every gameday for my high school games. Iowa state is definitely one of my top schools, probably in my top two. I love the atmosphere and coaches, I like the way the program is heading. That fact that I could be part of something like that is special for me.”
Iowa State is not the only program that will get a visit from Todd this fall. Wisconsin, Northwestern. Michigan State, Iowa, and Minnesota are schools that have gotten scheduled visits from Todd or have already got one. However, the Cyclones might be the only program who gets him a return visit.
“Most likely, I’ll take a return visit, but I don’t know when exactly. I will see Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa, and Minnesota. I’ll be looking at those schools a lot. Iowa next weekend against Northwestern, Minnesota the following weekend. I already went to Wisconsin when they played Georgia State. Others I am still planning.”
A commitment date for Todd looks like it will occur sometime later rather than sooner. During his visits this fall, he will be looking for a few factors within the programs he is interested in.
“The overall atmosphere, the vibe of the program. For Iowa State for instance, they have a really good vibe going on right now. Some place where the energy is really high and exciting around the program. I want to find a spot where I have a good relationship with the head coach. Find a fit where I can find a family that will push me to be the best that I can be.”
