Iowa State new Head Football Coach Matt Campbell and his coaching staff is taking recruiting to the next level in Ames.
This coaching staff has already proven that they don’t care how far they have to go to find the right athletes to fit in on the Iowa State campus.
One recent junior college official visitor Matt Leo is proof of that.
The 6-foot-7, 270-pound athlete is an Australia native, he is currently playing at Arizona Western Junior College.
Leo is learning about the recruiting process in the United States.
He has official offers from Arizona, Iowa State and Central Florida, but the talented defender is picking up a lot more interest as his game is improving.
“Right now the most important thing is for me to get all my classes completed and continue to work on improving my skills,” Leo told AllCyclones.com. “My visit to Iowa was great, a lot different than I ever expected it to be.”
Lee took an visit in August and committed to Arizona, not knowing much about the recruiting process .
“I want to take all my visits,” Leo said. “I didn’t know that Arizona really didn’t want me visiting other schools. I’m still committed to Arizona, but I won’t make my final decision until the last minute. A lot of other schools are starting to show interest, Iowa State is definitely one of my favorites.”
Leo has really taken to Coach Campbell and several members of the Cyclone football coaching staff.
“Coach Campbell is such a great guy,” Leo said. “The relationship he has with his team is really special, could see being a part of that. I can see Campbell turning Iowa State into a football power house in the near future.”
Leo is working hard in the classroom, hoping to be able to graduate and transfer in January, it’s still unclear if he will be able to do that.
“I will have to see if I can graduate in December,” Leo said. “A lot of schools are waiting to find out. Iowa State wants me regardless.”
