Iowa State had been chasing after 2017 Walled Lake (MI) three-star OT Robert Hudson for quite sometime, but when he committed to Purdue on August 8th, the Cyclones coaching staff backed off. However, things are different now and Iowa State is going after Hudson once again, especially after the firing of Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell.
Hudson, is one of three other Purdue commits that Iowa State is actively recruiting right now. The 6-foot-8, 300-pounder was a major target prior to his commitment to the Boilermakers and now he has become even more of a target as he is hearing a lot from Matt Campbell and Tom Manning.
“I've talked to Coach Manning, Coach Campbell and Coach McDonald,” Hudson said about his contact with Iowa State. “They are all great guys with one great goal to strive for greatness. We have an okay relationship when I committed to Purdue, I stopped hearing from them until recently.”
Iowa State isn’t the only program who is recruiting the Purdue verbal, Cincinnati and a few others are also in contact. Even though he is “solid” with Purdue, he will still take official visits and it looks like the Cyclones will get one.
“My commitment to Purdue is pretty solid as of right now. But I am hearing from Iowa State, Cincinnati and a few others. I'm gonna take officials, not sure when or to who yet though, but Iowa State is up there.”
A final decision from the offensive tackle prospect will come on National Signing Day after he takes his officials. Hudson also has some factors that will go into what programs will have a shot with him.
“Iowa State is definitely up there for me. I think Iowa State is a great program with great coaches that I feel will be very successful in the future. I plan to make a decision by Signing Day, but not really set in a date right now, still locked in at Purdue as of right now. In terms of what factors I will look at, there is a lot of factors like coaching, how I feel there the institution, my major, and much more because at the end of the day education is most important.”
