punter Tony Yelk
, whose 43.1-yard career punting average ranks second in school history, has been named as one of 32 players to the 2003 Ray Guy Award watch list as potential candidates for the award that goes to the top punter in college football. Yelk is the third Cyclone to make a national award watch list. ISU placekicker Adam Benike
is on the Lou Groza Award watch list as one of the nation's best kickers. Cyclone defensive tackle Jordan Carstens
is on the Outland Trophy watch list for the award that recognizes the nation's outstanding interior lineman.
Yelk, a native of Arlington, Wis., was a Sporting News freshman All-American in 2001 when he averaged 43.8 yards per punt, ranking second on the all-time ISU single-season list. Yelk averaged 42.3 yards per kick last season, ranking seventh all-time.
Benike was a first-team all-Big 12 selection last fall, hitting on 17-of-23 field goal attempts and 46-of-48 extra-point tries. Carstens, a first-team academic All-American and second-team all-Big 12 choice, made 103 tackles last season, 13 behind the line of scrimmage.
