Just several weeks after offering 2018 Prattville (AL) three-star ATH Cam Taylor, the staff has now once again dipped into the state of Alabama on Monday morning by offering 2017 Alexander City (AL) RB NeColby Maxwell.
After recent Iowa State offeree and former running back target Antwuan Branch committed to North Carolina over the weekend it appeared like the staff would offer another running back prospect to fill his spot as they want to bring in a few backs in this class.
The newest Cyclone target, a 5-foot-9, 198-pounder is an explosive and physical runner. During his senior season in high school, he recorded 1,600 rushing yards on 24 touchdowns. Maxwell also holds offers from programs like BYU and UAB. His most recent offer from Iowa State isn’t one that came out of nowhere, he has been receiving and talking to the staff for quite sometime.
“I got offered by Iowa State on Monday morning through a phone call with Coach Manning,” Maxwell said about his ISU offer. “Both just talked about recruiting and how my football season went. He also explained to me how they have been watching my junior and senior film. They’ve been looking at me for awhile and have been sending mail.”
Maxwell has talked to Iowa State’s offensive line coach Tom Manning a few times over the phone, not including his conversation on Monday regarding his offer from the Cyclones. So, his relationship isn’t that strong, but that could change after his visit to Iowa State in a few months.
“We have talked on the phone a few times, our relationship is okay, not strong yet. I plan on talking to Coach Manning when I visit Iowa State sometime in December, not sure when I’ll visit.”
When the month of December rolls around, that is when Maxwell plans on taking his official visits to his three finalists: Iowa State, BYU and UAB. During those visits, he wants to see how everything is organized and what feels like home.
“Iowa State, UAB, and BYU are my three finalists moving forward. I have already visited UAB for some practices since their not a long drive, but I also want to see BYU and Iowa State. Not sure if UAB will get an official though. When I visit, I want to see how everything is and if it feels like home.”
Maxwell is one the most under-the-radar prospects in the state of Alabama, due to all the outstanding receivers and running backs he is often overlooked. That’s one of the main reason’s for why he doesn’t have a longer list of offers. However, that could always change and his commitment date is still up in the air.
