Wilkins Comes Off Bench to Lead ISU

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's bench contributed 47 points to lead ISU to a 79-53 win over Long Island in the Cyclone Classic championship game Saturday night in Hilton Coliseum. Brittany Wilkins came off the bench to post career highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds for ISU, while Tracy Paustian turned in double-digit rebounds for the second consecutive game with 10 boards. Paustian and Wilkins joined Cyclone Classic MVP Erica Junod on the all-tournament team.

The Cyclones limited Long Island to 25 percent shooting in the first half and outrebounded the Blackbirds 33-14 to help ISU to a 35-22 halftime lead. Paustian had eight rebounds at the break, including six offensive boards. Wilkins came off the bench to tally 10 points in the first half.

Iowa State sank 11-of-26 3-pointers en route to shooting 43.1 percent in the game. The Cyclones controlled the glass with a 58-32 rebounding advantage and had 15 turnovers in the game, ISU's lowest total in four games.

Anne O'Neil had 14 points and eight assists for Iowa State, while Lyndsey Medders added 10 points. Megan Ronhovde came off the bench to sink 3-of-4 treys for nine points while collecting eight rebounds for the Cyclones. All 12 Cyclones saw playing time for the second consecutive game.

Texas Southern topped Utah Valley State 62-49 in the consolation game. Monica Okolo led all scorers with 17 points, draining 3-of-6 treys for TSU. Crystal Robinson and Jennifer Hickmon added 10 points each. UVSC dominated the glass 51-39, but shot a chilly 27.4 percent from the floor. The Tigers shot 37 percent in the game and converted on 16-of-28 free throws.
