Just a few days after Sarasota (Fla.) Riverview Gardens linebacker Tyrone McKenzie left Ames with a ‘soft' commitment, Iowa State made a more serious push Tuesday night by sending an assistant coach to his house for an in-home visit. How did the Cyclones fare?
"I told (Coach Chris Ash) that I was really interested in Iowa State
and wanted to commit, but he said one of their policies is that they didn't want me going to other schools," said McKenzie shortly after his visit ended. "I just wanted to go to another school just to compare it. They told me they're really interested in me and if I was to go to another school then I could come back Sunday and still have a scholarship open for me."
McKenzie now appears headed to either an SEC or Big 10 school this weekend, and said he would be making a decision Monday after consulting with his mother and head coach.
"I'm planning on going to either Michigan State or Florida State," McKenzie said. "I have a number of scholarship offers, but have narrowed it down to either Florida State, Florida, Michigan State or Iowa State. Right now Iowa State is my number one school. I went to Iowa State and was very happy with what's going on there. If it came down to signing day being tomorrow, I'd sign with Iowa State. But I want something to compare it to."
