AMES, Iowa -- The National Senior High School heavyweight wrestling champion, Tony Johnson of Lakota East High School in Liberty Heights, Ohio, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Iowa State this fall. Johnson, the 2004 Ohio prep Division I heavyweight champion, finished his prep career with a 130-22 record with 91 pins.

Johnson won the national high school title in April, beating beating fellow Ohioan Kirk Nail (Hilliard Davidson) 3-2 in the U.S. finals in Cleveland, Ohio. Johnson finished third as a sophomore and fifth as a junior at the Ohio State Division I prep championships. The Asics Ironman Tournament champion in 2004, he was ranked as the third-best prep heavyweight nationally this season by Amateur Wrestling News.

Johnson finished fourth in the 2003 Junior National Freestyle Championship and was the Cadet National Freestyle champion in 2002.
