ISU Fans Donate Record Amount for Club

AMES, Iowa -- National Cyclone Club donations reached a record $3.87 million for the fiscal year 2004 that ended June 30, Iowa State University athletics director Bruce Van De Velde announced Thursday. The record level of support eclisped the previous record of nearly $3.6 million for fiscal year 2003.

"Our National Cyclone Club slogan is 'The Team Behind the Teams'," Van De Velde said. "That has never been more true than right now. The support of our fans has been tremendous. I want to thank all of our National Cyclone Club members for contributing and helping the Cyclone athletic program grow."

The National Cyclone Club currently boasts nearly 5,500 members from across the country. In the last four years, 1,800 new donors have joined the National Cyclone Club.

"The grassroots of the National Cyclone Club are the more than 2,000 members who annually give at the Century Club ($100) and the States 250 ($250) level," Van De Velde said. "These contributions make up more than 40 percent of our contributors. We appreciate all of our National Cyclone Club members. There is strength in numbers." National Cyclone Club revenue is used to fund scholarships, defraying significant recent tuition increases.

"Our National Cyclone Club members are the biggest reason for our success," said associate athletic director Joan Bowles. "Iowa State is a special place with special fans. People make a difference at ISU. Nothing demonstrates this more than the commitment of our National Cyclone Club members."
