Four Cyclones Names Captains

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State head football coach Dan McCarney announced four 2004 Cyclone team captains Monday. Senior linebacker Eric Anderson, senior cornerback Ellis Hobbs and senior offensive linemen Cale Stubbe and Luke Vander Sanden were voted co-captains by their teammates at the conclusion of two-a-day practices.

"Being named a captain on a vote of your peers is the highest honor that you can earn in football," McCarney said. "I feel great about the four men who has been chosen as representatives of our team."

Anderson, native of Eden Prairie, Minn., was a second-team academic all-Big 12 honoree last season. He made 44 tackles last season, including a career-high nine stops against Texas. Hobbs, a second-team academic all-conference selection in 2003 from DeSoto, Texas, owns 138 career tackles and four interceptions.

Stubbe, a Cedar Rapids native who made the ISU Dean's List in 2004, started all 12 games last season at left tackle. Vander Sanden, a first-team academic all-Big 12 choice last season from Inwood, started seven games last fall in the offensive line, despite injuries.
