Independence Bowl Picks Cyclones

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State athletics director Bruce Van De Velde announced Sunday that Iowa State's co-Big 12 Conference North Division champion football team has accepted a bid to play against Miami University in the Independence Bowl, Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CST on ESPN from Shreveport, La.

The Independence Bowl appearance marks the fourth postseason bowl game appearance in five seasons for Iowa State under head football coach Dan McCarney. ISU played against Alabama in the 2001 Independence Bowl.

"We're thrilled to go back to the Independence Bowl," said McCarney. "The hospitality there is fantastic, and helped us build long-term relationships with the great people of Shreveport. Now, we just need our fans to come down and support us like they did in 2001. When Texas qualified for the BCS, we moved up in the selection order thanks to the great reputation of our fans, and that played a big part of the Independence Bowl selecting us."
