Tavale Now Has Different Favorite

Scout.com's Allen Wallace recently caught up with one of Iowa State's prime offensive line targets for the Class of 2005, Cretin Derham-Hall (Minn.) standout Nedward Tavale for an update on his recruitment.

St. Paul (Minn.) defensive lineman Nedward Tavale (6-2, 301, 5.3, 3 stars) now says Iowa State (12/10 official trip) leads slightly over Minnesota (12/3), Illinois, UNLV and Boise St.

"Iowa State leads slightly for me right now," says Tavale, from Cretin Hall Derham. "Minnesota is my #2 school.

"I like Iowa State all around because they've called me so much and they had like three coaches come to my house at once for an in-home visit. It felt real good having someone look me up like that. And they're not to far away from Minnesota.

"I've grown really close to that coaching staff, especially with coaches (Mike) Nelson (defensive line) and (Barney) Cotton (offensive line). They seem to be leaning on putting me on offensive line. Getting to know the coaches is a huge thing, and that's what gives them the edge right now.

"Minnesota has great coaches too, but I haven't spoken with them as much as I have with the coaches over at Iowa State. The players there are all great guys though. And I like the campus there too.

"The guys there seem to be a really close, tight-knit, group of players, and they like to have fun. I don't mean to say they're goof-offs, but it can't be all about fun if you've got to win.

"Coach (Glen) Mason was cool to talk to. And my official visit there was fun, but I didn't get to know the program as much as I wanted.

"UNLV's offer came in writing just yesterday.

"And I talk a lot with the coaches at Boise St and they send me a lot of mail but they still haven't offered. Even if they were to offer, I still wouldn't go there for an official visit."

Tavale says he will officially visit Illinois (1/7) and UNLV (1/14).
