Decision Looms for Stanton

Perhaps the highest-rated JUCO recruit remaining on Iowa State's board is College of the Canyons defensive end David Stanton. After taking a weekend visit to Oregon State, Stanton faced some big decisions in the coming week.

First, he will need to decide on one of three programs still in the running – ISU, Michigan State, and Oregon State. Secondly, he'll need to find out if he's a mid-year transfer and make his decision based off of that.

Stanton gave an update Tuesday afternoon.

"I haven't really made a decision yet," said David Stanton. "I'm still in limbo. I have a meeting with my coaches at College of the Canyons on Thursday, and I should know a lot more after that."

His stop at Oregon State was a positive one, Stanton says, but his two favorites remain the same.

"It was a good visit," he said. "It opened my eyes to a couple of things, but it's not Iowa State. Facility-wise, Iowa State is above Oregon State. Coaching-wise, it's the same. Iowa State and Michigan State have great coaches, and I love the coaches there. But I'm not as close to the coaches at Oregon State. Iowa State and Michigan State are still my two favorites after the visit."

As for Stanton's status as a mid-year transfer, he says it's looking more and more like he'll need one more semester at Canyons.

"That's one of the main things we're going to talk about Thursday," Stanton said. "I was taking an online class, but the test is coming back late, so most likely I don't think I'm going to be a mid-year guy. I will probably be transferring in the summer time."
