ISU adds skilled shooter

A glaring need for the Iowa State basketball program is perimeter shooting. With that in mind, the Cyclones have secured their fifth commitment for the 2005 recruiting class.

CN has learned the newest member of Iowa State's men's basketball recruiting class of 2005 is Mike Evanovich from South Kent School in Connecticut.

Evanovich is visiting the Cyclones this weekend, and was in attendance at Hilton Coliseum for the thrilling 74-66 upset victory over 13th-ranked Oklahoma. Several mid-major programs like Rice, Wagner, and South Florida had previously recruited Evanovich, a two-star prospect according to Scout.com. However, his lethal perimeter shooting skills makes him an excellent fit for an ISU program that has converted just six of its last 35 three-point attempts this season. Evanovich, who is 6 feet 8 inches tall, is also an outstanding student with a 1200 SAT score.

He is expected to sign with ISU during the spring signing period. He joins fall signees Shawn Taggert, Kellen Lee, Ross Marsden, and Farnold Degand as incoming freshmen for next season.

Stay tuned for more on Evanovich soon from CN's Bill Seals.
