In-State Programs Target Another Brant

Now that the Cyclones' 2005 signing class is in the books, it's time to take a look at some of the top in-state juniors. One of those should have some name familiarity for Iowa State fans.

Dubuque Wahlert tight end Alex Brant surely will be ranked among the top five prospects in Iowa this coming fall, most likely mentioned as one of the top three.

The younger brother of current Iowa State Cyclone offensive lineman Aaron Brant, Alex has already begun to receive interest from both in-state programs, as well, as the Wisconsin Badgers.

"Iowa and Iowa State have both sent assistant coaches by in the past month," said head coach Jim Killoran, referring to Hawkeye assistant Reese Morgan and Cyclone assistant Terry Allen. "Wisconsin has also sent some information down here, and I know there have been other tape requests, but nothing else from those schools."

Alex Brant, who is currently participating in basketball, will also run in track this spring. Due to his basketball schedule, he was not able to attend junior day visits at both Iowa and Iowa State this past month.

The only remaining question left concerning Brant is that with a 6'6 frame, and a brother currently playing the offensive lineman, is he a sure bet to play tight end?

"I know both Iowa and Iowa State have said from looking at his frame right now, they feel tight end is his position. While neither have offered, they have implied how badly they'd like to have him a part of their program, already. They like the way he blocks, and the way he catches. He has such soft hands," commented Killoran.
