AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State, coming off a December season-ending Independence Bowl victory, will open the 2005 football season at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 in Jack Trice Stadium against Illinois State, ISU athletics director Bruce Van De Velde announced Tuesday.
The Cyclone football schedule includes home games against Iowa
Sept. 10; against Baylor
for Family Weekend; Oct. 8, against Oklahoma State
for Homecoming Oct. 22; Nov. 5 against Kansas State
and Nov. 12 against Colorado
"It was important to us to get another home game for our fans and our community," Van De Velde said. "We looked at a lot of scheduling options to get a Division I-A opponent, including playing a road game. Ultimately, it came down to making sure we had another home game. A Cyclone home game brings people into Ames from all over the state and beyond."
The 2005 season-opener will mark the first meeting between Illinois State and Iowa State in football.
