O'Neil Third-Round Selection in WNBA Draft

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State's Anne O'Neil was one of eight Big 12 Conference players chosen in today's WNBA draft. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native is the seventh ISU player to be drafted since 2000 and earned the second-highest pick in Cyclone history.

O'Neil was a third-round selection by the Sacramento Monarchs, chosen 30th overall in the three-round, 39-player draft. She joins first-rounder Kristin Hayne of Michigan State, second-round selection Chelsea Newton of Rutgers and No. 35 selection Cisti Greenwalt of Texas Tech on the Sacramento roster.

The 5-11 All-American guard led ISU in scoring with 16.6 points per game while ranking among the nation's leaders with 49.6 percent accuracy from behind the 3-point arc. O'Neil earned first-team all-Big 12 honors and honorable mention All-America recognition from The Associated Press and the WBCA/Kodak awards program.
