Has ISU found a Buddy?

Garland (Texas) High School has become familiar recruiting territory for Iowa State in recent years. One of its top prospects for 2006, and one of the top prospects in the Lonestar state overall, is offensive lineman Buddy Brumit. He spoke to CycloneNation.com about what he thinks about ISU.

Garland (Texas) High School offensive lineman Buddy Brumit is one of the most coveted recruits for the Class of 2006. He has a leadership mentality and a great work ethic.

"I see myself as an all-around player," he said. "I'm a good listener and I show good leadership. I don't get frustrated and I always work real hard."

Brumit (6-4/238/5.28) is a member of the Scout.com Texas Hot 100. He currently has a total of nine scholarship offers.

"I have been offered by Iowa State, Arizona, Kansas, Northwestern, Minnesota, Indiana, Colorado State, TCU, and Tulsa. My top five right now would have to be Iowa State, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Arizona."

He went on to say that Iowa State would receive an official visit. Arizona was the first school to offer Brumit and Iowa State was the second. Also of note is that Oklahoma State and Texas Tech haven't offered yet, but they are currently showing Brumit a high level of interest. The coveted prospect is currently being recruited by ISU Assistant Head Coach/Running Backs Coach Tony Alford.

"Coach Alford is recruiting me from Iowa State," Brumit said. "He's an all-around good guy. I've known him for a while now and we keep in good contact. I talk to him once a week or so."

Brumit hasn't yet had an opportunity to talk to ISU Head Coach Dan McCarney. Buddy is being recruited by ISU to be an offensive lineman.

"I like their campus," Brumit said in reference to Ames. "It's very pretty and ISU is really growing as a football program. I watched them on TV a lot this past season and I really like the direction the program is heading in."
Brumit has currently been on one unofficial visit.
"I went to Arkansas," he said. "It was a good trip. They have a nice campus and it was a lot of fun."
Arkansas is another program that is still evaluating Brumit and has yet to offer. What kind of school is Brumit looking for?
"The school I choose will have a good Pre-Med Program since that is my intended major. I want to go to a school where I fit in and a place that seems like home. I want an all-around school with good academics and a good football program."
Brumit participated at a Scout.com Combine in Waco.
"The combine went great," he said. "I was a bit nervous at first because I've never been really challenged like I was there. It was a great chance to measure up against some of the best. I think I did pretty good and I was happy with my performance."
Buddy will be camping in two locations this summer.
"I'll be camping at Oklahoma State and Texas Tech," he said. "I want to get bigger and stronger this season. I want to keep working hard and step up into more of a leadership role."
Last season, Brumit and his teammates at Garland High School finished with a record of 8-3. They lost in the first round in the 5A Texas State Playoffs to eventual champion Tyler Lee.
