Commitment #3!

Sibling Cyclones isn't exactly a new phenomena in the Dan McCarney era at Iowa State. On the heels of the conclusion of padded camp, another brother has chosen to join his older sibling in Ames and will in February as part of the class of 2006.

Following the likes of Troy and Darren Davis, JJ and Milan Moses, Korey and Kyle Smith and Andy and Nick Leaders – Nick and Nate Frere will be the latest set of brothers to sport Cardinal and Gold.

The Cyclones picked up their third commitment on Friday when Nate decided to join his brother Nick at Iowa State.

At 6-foot-2, 270 pounds, Nate will play nose guard for the Cyclones. Nick, a linebacker, was a freshman on last year's ISU squad.

Nate drove up from Muscatine for Friday's padded camp and committed afterwards.

He said the football program sold itself to him; his brother was a minor factor.

"Sure it's good that he's playing already, but he really didn't come into the picture when it came to me picking where I wanted to go to college," Nate said.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kansas State, Illinois and Northern Illinois, among others were showing interest in Nate, but the ISU coaching staff was the difference in the end.

"[I got] to know the coaches better at camp and worked with them one-on-one," he said.

Over the next couple of months Nate said he'll focus on a couple of areas to improve in – mainly his foot speed and strength.

Besides the Frere brothers current Cyclones Ben Barkema and Michael Main also hail from Muscatine High School.
