Commitment #8

Iowa State's newest commit isn't so new, he's been a Cyclone for quite awhile!

Randy Palmer's secret is out of the bag – he committed to the Cyclones weeks ago.

"They offered first and I got to talk to them a little bit and I liked what they were talking about," he said.

Palmer, a 6-foot 178 pound quarterback, said a lot of schools where showing interest by few had offered yet.

Iowa State recruited Palmer as an athlete, which plays to his strengths according to Tulsa East Central High School coach Travis Hill.

"Randy is very, very athletic and very capable of playing not only quarterback but wide receiver/defensive back," Hill said. "I think that has helped him as far as his recruitment process."

Palmer, who runs a 4.52 40, has been Tulsa East Central's starting quarterback the past two seasons, leading the squad to a 9-4 record a season ago.

"We were district champions and regional champions," Hill said. "We lost in the semifinals of the state championship playoffs the lat two years."

Ever since third grade Palmer has been splitting time between quarterback and cornerback; Palmer said he likes the qb position best and compares his game to a familiar ISU foe – Missouri's Brad Smith.

Palmer has not been to Ames yet, but he said he is looking forward to attending some of Iowa State's games this season.
