ISU Golfer Athas at the U.S. Women's Amateur

Iowa State golfer Christi Athas made it to the round of 32 at the United States Women's Amateur, falling to Virginia Grimes, 3 and 2, Thursday at the Ashley Golf Club in Roswell, Ga.

        Athas, a native of Eldora, Iowa, won her first match against Renee Skidmore (4 and 3) and was the 19th-seed in the tournament after carding rounds of 73 and 74 in the stroke play portion of the event. It was a successful summer for Athas, who advanced to match play rounds (final 64) of both the USGA Women's Publinks and the USGA Women's Amateur. Athas is entering her junior season at Iowa State.
