Get to know captain Nick Leaders

The anchor of the Cyclone defensive front, Nick Leaders was a second-team all-Big 12 selection a season ago. He had 50 tackles, one recovered fumble, 3.5 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss. The fourth-year player was a first-team all-freshman selection by collegefootballnews.com and was Iowa State's Outstanding Newcomer in 2002.

Were you surprised when you heard your name called as captain?

Leaders: A little bit you never know. I knew a lot of guys respected me and they always told I'd be captain, but you never except. It's always a great honor when you get picked by your teammates

What type of leader are you?

Leaders: I used to always be a lead by example guy, but coming into my senior season I realized I had to do more. I had to become a vocal leader even if it's not my nature I had to get outside myself a little bit and do what has to be done.
