3 Keys to an Iowa State Victory

Find out what staff writer Ryan Buck thinks will be the keys to an ISU victory.

Offensive Line needs to dominate

The ISU offensive line will have a considerable size advantage against the Redbirds and needs to come out and use it. The Cyclones should be able to create some huge running lanes. With the straight ahead running style that Hicks, Coleman and Brown have, that could mean a big day running the football. This is the perfect type of game to get the O-line the attitude and confidence it needs to have a successful season. Now they just need to get it done.

Stop the Redbirds rushing attack

Illinois State has a couple of good tailbacks in Pierre Rembert (Michigan transfer) and Brian Thompson (ex-Cyclone), so it is no secret they will try to run the football. Once the Cyclones stop the Redbirds on the ground, the game will get ugly when Illinois Stat tries to throw. But that requires good gap responsibility by the guys up front, they lead the rest of the D will follow.

Solid on Special Teams

The last thing the Cyclones want in a game like this is for the special teams to play poorly. If the kickers are missing kicks and kicks/punts are getting blocked the final score won't mean a thing. A complete game begins and ends with the special teams. Here's to total team domination. Go Cyclones!!!!
