The CN Staff picks their five winners and losers of the weekend. A running total will be kept all season long and the last place winner gets a congratulatory case of Natty Lite.

Iowa at Iowa State...This is going to be a close, hard fought game, regardless of what a certain segment of bumblebees believe.  However, I keep going back to wondering if ISU can really eliminate all those mental errors in just one week before playing the No. 8 team in the country.  Right now, I'm not so sure.  As much as I'd love to hammer Hawkeye Nation on the radio Monday because of a Cyclone win, I think Iowa gets it done, 24-20.

Texas at Ohio State...For the life of me I don't why players at Ohio State just can't keep their mouths shut.  Why would you run smack at Vince Young for goodness sakes?  Makes no sense.  Still, the Buckeyes have never lost at the Horseshoe at night, and I think that streak continues because those linebackers will back up the smack by laying the smack down on the Texas running game.  Ohio State wins a close, low-scoring game, 16-10.

Notre Dame at Michigan...The Irish looked darned impressive in that rout of Pittsburgh, and when Bo Schembechler is on national television telling the audience that the Michigan offense is "atrocious" that speaks volumes.  Notre Dame gets its first win in The Big House since 1993, 28-24.

LSU at Arizona State...Hurricane Katrina has wrought havoc on thousands of lives and left nearly 1 million people homeless.  That has to impact the mental state and preparation of the Tigers, who had to move this game to Tempe.  The tragic distractions, not to mention playing a top 25 team on the road to open the season, will lead to a 24-14 win for the Sun Devils.

Kansas State at Marshall...It's tempting to with the Thundering Herd here, but we'll give the coach everyone loves to hate the benefit of the doubt and say the Wildcats escape with a 38-31 win.

Iowa at Iowa StateOk, so the Cyclones didn't look all that great last week that doesn't mean that they are bad. Look at Iowa's performance last year at Arizona St. You hate to have a wake up call but bringing the Clones back to earth may have been the best medicine. At least they didn't loose. Can Stevie Hicks find the holes and avoid Iowa's linebackers and can ISU's front D-line put pressure on Tate? That will be the keys for the Cyclones to bring back the Cy-Hawk trophy to Ames with the Clones winning, 27-23.

Texas at Ohio State..This could have been played in the Rose Bowl but instead we see this as the best game of the week. Texas's defensive line is tough and will force Ohio State to throw. Vince Young is better on the fly than Troy Smith and avoids the Hawk (AJ) & co, the linebacker for the Buckeyes. TE David Thomas has a huge game and Texas pulls out the victory at the "Shoe", 14-10 in a defensive showdown.

Notre Dame at MichiganIs Notre Dame that good or Pittsburg over rated? This week will find out if the Irish have any luck on their side. The Wolverines are very tough at home but the Irish do not fear the big house. This one is close but Michigan's running game wears out Notre Dame's defensive and holds on, 23-17 Michigan.

LSU at Arizona StateWhat a tough game for LSU. Is the entire nation going to be pulling for them on this one? Emotion plays a big factor and will carry them so far but because of the headache Katrina caused I see the Sun Devils take advantage of a marquee team much like last year against Iowa and pull out a squeaker, 24-23 ASU.

Kansas State at MarshallThe Wildcats need to make a statement in this game to show that they can shrug off last years season. Last week didn't prove much except that the defensive may be better than anticipated. Look for the Wildcats to pull one out for the Big 12 in a Saturday that may not be a good one for the conference, 20-17 KSU.

Iowa at Iowa StateIt will be close, it will be physical and it will be hard fought and in the end Iowa State will take back the Cy-Hawk trophy with a 24-21. Tony Yelk will put the Cyclones ahead with a long field goal and Jason Berryman will sack Drew Tate to secure the victory.

Texas at Ohio StateThis is a tough one and I'm divided on who to choose, but in the end I think I'll take Ohio State 24-14.

Notre Dame at MichiganHail to the Victors, Michigan will win 28-21.

LSU at Arizona StateWith the game being at Arizona State, I'll have to go with the Sun Devils, 31-28, even though I'm pulling for LSU.

Kansas State at MarshallI'm gonna go with Marshall, 35-28. Just because Oklahoma threw me off last week.

Iowa at Iowa State…If you have listened to any sports talk radio or if you have seen any Hawkeye message board posts you would swear Iowa will win this game by at least two if not three touchdowns.  Lou Holtz's comments played right into Mac's hands and provided the exact kind of message material Mac uses so well.  Forget the above mentioned Big 10 sarcasm, Iowa State will correct last week's mistakes and launch an aerial assault on Iowa resulting in a 24-21 victory.  Hawkeye Nation will go into a state of shock and Sound Off will be the most entertaining show of the year.

Texas at Ohio StateTexas has tons of talent but how many times have we seen them lose the big game?  Until Texas wins a Championship I will always have a hard time picking them in a big game.  Ohio State has won 36 straight non-conference games at home and that streak will continue with Ohio State winning in an ugly fashion.  Of course the main reason Ohio State will win is once again the fact that a Big 12 team certainly couldn't beat any team from the most dominant conference in the world, right?

Notre Dame at MichiganAll I have heard all week long is how great the Big 10 is this year and how bad the Big 12 will be.  With that in mind, how could I dare pick against the mighty Big 10 (note heavy sarcasm)?  Michigan will beat Notre Dame in a closely matched game but the dominance of the Big 10 will be the difference.

LSU at Arizona StateThis game will mean much more to LSU than just getting a notch in the win column.  Each victory will help hurricane victims forget their problems for at least a few hours so look for LSU to bring a little extra passion into this game.  LSU is 10-3 all time against current members of the PAC 10.  Even thought Arizona State has a very good team this year I just don't see LSU losing this game.

Kansas State at MarshallDidn't Kansas State know Marshall is a Division I-A team?  What happened to playing the sisters of the poor?  This game must have been scheduled prior to last season because I can't imagine Kansas State would go on the road to a good team like Marshall after the year Kansas State just had.  This would seem like an upset special just waiting to happen but I'm not going to take the bait.  For some reason my gut tells me Kansas State will find a way to pull this one out but don't expect it to be pretty.  Kansas State over Marshall in a nail-biter.

Last week's results
